Lili Elbe

Lili Elbe was a transgender woman from Denmark and one of the first identifiable people to have received gender reassignment surgery. She died shortly after one surgery, which would have allowed her to marry as she wanted to legally. Recently a movie starring Eddie Redmayne, based off of the book “The Danish Girl”, was made about her.
